COMMITTEE CHARGE

To increase minority home ownership in Portland, by creating marketing and outreach recommendations that will help people of color become home owners.

grandpaReaching out and marketing to communities of color requires understanding and honoring the (often painful) history, culture, and traditions of the audience.  Differences in cultures can impact how people receive and process information.

That understanding must be demonstrated in the messages developed and the methods used to transmit those messages. The messages must resonate with different groups of people and the delivery methods must be accessible to and trusted by the audience.

As a result, unique messages and methods may be needed to reach each community.

This committee worked between October 2006 and November 25, 2006 to develop recommendations to be presented to the Steering Committee for vetting and action.

Please view the most current Outreach & Marketing Plan – the original version, in addition to other related documents submitted to the Steering Committee, can be found in the Steering Committee Materials.

Review the original Outreach & Marketing framing document, which lays out the committee’s charge and challenges to overcome.
